Patient credits OT for life-saving guidance
Knee replacements come with unfamiliar pains. So when LC of NE Colorado came home from the hospital not feeling well last November, she wasn’t too concerned. Yet when a Visiting Nurse Association occupational therapist vistied her the next day, she was happy to see her.
"Chaylene was very helpful,” said LC. “She went through the rooms of my home to make sure there was nothing that would cause me difficulty during my recovery.
“Chaylene also was keeping an eye on me. She noticed I wasn’t feeling well and ended her assessment with a strong recommendation that I go to the emergency room. I know she was concerned.
“My husband drove me to the hospital right away. It didn’t take the ER team long to readmit me – for five more days! – after finding a blood clot in my abdomen.
“I am truly thankful for the professionalism of the Visiting Nurse Association’s team. Although Chaylene isn’t a nurse, she recognized the signs that something was wrong. We are very pleased with her attention to me and the services she provided.
“VNA’s physical therapist also was fantastic. After my second hospital stay, I was so behind on my therapy. But Shelene got me going again. I was very impressed, and I’m doing great now. Little by little, I'm climbing stairs again!”
